LA CONFERENCE FEMINISTE APPELLE A LEGALISER LE RU-486Six mille féministes du monde entier se sont rassemblés à Baltimore, USA, ce dernier week-end pour célébrer les réussites de leur mouvement, mais elles ont émis une mise en garde contre l'impression que le combat était gagné et suffisant et ont fait appel à la mobilisation d'une nouvelle génération d'activistes. Le rassemblement des dirigeantes féministes incluait Gloria Steinem, Eleanor Smeal, Betty Friedan et Patricia Irlande.Parmi les thèmes principaux de la conférence, parrainé par la Smeal's Feminist Majority Foundation, figurait un appel à l' US Food and Drug Administration pour clarifier la situation de la mifepristone, un médicament nommé aussi RU-486. développée primitivement comme comme médicament pour pratiquer l'avortement médical, le médicament ayant aussi son utilité comme "pilule du lendemain" et dans le traitement du cancer ovarien et du cancer du sein, ainsi que les fibromes utérins et autres maladies qui affligent principalement les femmes. CALL TO LEGALISE RU-486 AT FEMINIST CONFERENCESix thousand feminists from around the world gathered in Baltimore, USA, last weekend to celebrate the successes of their movement, but they warned against complacency and launched a global push to mobilise a new generation of activists. The gathering included feminist leaders Gloria Steinem, Eleanor Smeal, Betty Friedan and Patricia Ireland.Among the main themes of the conference, sponsored by Smeal's Feminist Majority Foundation, was a call for the US Food and Drug Administration to clear the drug mifepristone, also known as RU-486. Primarily developed for medical abortion, the drug also has uses as a "morning-after pill", in treating ovarian and breast cancer, fibroid tumours and other diseases that primarily afflict women.
