San Vitale - Mosaic with JustinianIn history a meeting point for the Western and the Eastern World is now well known for its many beautiful sacred buildings as mausoleums, chapels and churches, and most of all known for the marvellous Byzantine mosaics.
If you visit Ravenna look to attend an organ concert (or any other classical concert) in one of the churches as we did in the Basilica of San Vitale. Something you never will forget, especially if you have the luck to hear some Toccata's and Fugues of J.S. Bach (it gave us the creeps)!

These days the art of mosaics is still practiced: reproduction of ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine mosaics, restoration of ancient and modern mosaics, etc. as you can see at the Mosaic Art Studio.
