Match Reports

As soon as the first game is played you can read all about it here. Well, from the following Monday, that is.

Our reporting team has been told in the strictest terms to write accurately. Meaning no more spelling mistakes or punctuation howlers. And bring on those football idioms! When was the last time you heard the manager speak for several minutes without saying anything, eh? Actually, that's what he does all the time...

News right from the wire! In an effort to stave off all comments on his spelling and grammar prowess Manager Paul has decided to use a ghost writer. In time he/she may feel secure enough in his/her job to actually go to our games and ditch Paul as a source. You can comment on his/her performance on the forum. The reports published here are unabridged and completely unchanged from the way they were scribbled by the writer's pen...

25/10/2003: MBFC v Van Dooren: 3 - 4

The PGW report:

This was a very strange game. After 12 minutes it was 0-4 behind, then for the last 58 minutes, VD had 1 attempt at our goal and that came half way through the 2nd half.

The day started well with two of our main midfield players Bozo & Jurgen coming back into the action. What I didn’t think about was our team being a sleep for that opening 15 mins.

The 1st goal was a poor kick-out by Wesley. The 2nd I stood and watched the guy juggle the ball and score. The 3rd a long ball over the top. The 4th a clearance from a corner fell to the edge of the area 0-4. 4 shots 4 goals a very good ratio.

Then an amazing thing happens we all decide this was enough and started to attack. They did not cross our half again; we were totally in camped in they half. We created chance after chance with Jurgen, Andrei, Andries all having near misses or the  keeper stopping them.

You do begin to wonder if it was going to be our day!!.

The 2nd half started were we left off, but all this did was to carry thought “isn’t going to be our day”.

We mange to pull 2 goals back in that opening 20 mins Nemo and Steven both finding the net finally. Then disaster: Bozo hurts his back in a tackle while on attack. His season is now probably over.

So any chance of an amazing comeback was disappearing fast, but then Anderi pulls another goal back 3-4, 5 mins left can we do it?

Then with last corner kick of the game a trademark corner from Steven saw the keeper punch the ball away, [from my position behind the line), but of course the ref always see it differently.

We tried so hard to comeback and it all most happened. What we have to do now is play like the last 58 minutes of the game for 70 minutes, and we will not lose anymore games. We are going to have to dig deep and hard to make sure the promise of the start of the season materializes.

We are team win draw lose remember that.

18/10/2003: Dutchie's wedding: no football game

11/10/2003: Sava v MBFC: 6 - 2

The PGW report: to follow

I do not have much to say about this game. I know the defeat must hurt, but at the end of my last report I said we had to be on top of our game to beat Sava.

We were not and were easily beaten by a team who wanted to win. This was not anyone’s fault, but just a poor team performance. It is our first poor game of the season and hopefully our last.

I say ‘poor game’ because we still created chances: Andrei scored another 2 goals (maybe he will score a hat-trick one day) while Andries is staking a very strong claim for a position in the centre of midfield.

We are Molly Blooms FC and we cannot go through a season without having ONE bad game. What is important is what we do with the other 21 games.

We know we can do better, I don’t have to tell you that. Let’s learn from it and next time around they will have a poor game.

It is good for us mentally and physically if we all get back into training on Wednesday or Thursday so that when we return on the 25th against Van Dooren they won’t know what hit them. Come on guys, let’s pick it up again.

Next week it is Peter’s wedding so guys, it is a case of relaxing and enjoying it.

Until Wednesday!

04/10/2003: MBFC v Los Amigos: 3 - 3

You start to wonder what the hell is going wrong with that ghost writer Paul found. Words like 'a terminal case of writer's block' springs to mind, as well as 'disgrace' and 'shoddy journalism'.
But, hang on, there's a newcomer on the block! Is this someone angling for the obviously vacant spot as PGW?
The PGW report arrived: click here

The new (?) PGW report: Their finest hour

As they strolled towards the battlefield they seemed to be unaware of great deeds ahead. Their casual behaviour had some sinister aspect and a shiver went through the numerous attending supporters. Even the president of the firm was at this day in history. As always on these occasions he wore his Molly Blooms underpants with the famous " honour and duty or death" inscription that so many ladies had seen in despair.

The enemy looked impressive, warming up their artillery, showing off the cavalry doing excessive sprinting in an attempt to scare off our heroes. They reminded me of the ancient Romans as they hit their swords against their armour. It turned out to be no empty threat. Our army just gave the spectacle a short glance and started another lengthy conversation about Celtic v Rangers. They wondered whether in Glasgow people would know that the real old Firm was played down here.

And off they rode.

As in all important wars the KAVVV had delivered the most absurdest of referees, we had come up with the lousiest battleground but had managed to get together the strongest squadron. It had not even started when Amigos' artillery dropped a grenade which was fumbled in handily by an enemy spy. For ten minutes we were shaken, the enemy defence looked well. Suddenly our famous T-33 tank got possession and advanced with great speed towards the opponents' flag. We knew what was to be... Unaware of the great names he was beating, Yannick "the clumsy but ferocious" and even the "Rosse", he continued his march and from close range sought out his target and fired a 9 inch shell.

Our defence, though, was not at their best in these moments, carrying out several wounded victims. We forgot to cover our flanks, making us very vulnerable for their famous cavalry. The result was disappointment when another two full hits were blasted into our command centre. Luckily there followed a whistle for retreat and we could gather our shattered troops.

After a short break we managed to scrape some new energy. Our defence looked fierce. There was a confidence nobody could explain (not even today). "Every man an army" shouted the manager and this was taken very seriously by our two flying Dutchmen. They killed of any attack and inflicted wounds where possible. Meanwhile the T-33 was hiding in the woods for a short moment. The battle changed aspect from our defence, slowly our midfield took control and needless to say there we have the finest FN artillery mortar gun of our league. He kept on pounding shells on enemy lines and with a fierce stroke hit the wall of the enemy centre but unfortunately it held well.

The enemy got tired, their wounds heavier, while Molly's pounding persisted. Our counter-attack was on its way and suddenly out of the bush came our Russian tank. It squashed an enemy soldier and dropped another full hit. Slowly supporters started to understand there was something in the making they had not seen in a long while.

With two minutes to go our artillery got a final chance to have a straight go at their flag. Every hero moved in position and prepared to trash the opponent. The grenade that was unleashed carried the hopes of one and the despair of the other. Too high, too long, too slow, NO, exactly right as it destroyed the enemy command post.

Justice was done, tears of joy everywhere, heroes on the field crying as they finished their last duties.

Realising it is still a long way to the championship title we started the wedding celebrations anyway. Molly Blooms - Los Amigos 3-3

The PGW report:

So at long last L.A and we meet in a league match, and it ended up honors even in very hard fought battle were both teams didn’t want to lose.

In a wind effected game L.A had the advantage in the 1st half and soon raced into 0-1 lead. But this year is different we have a outlet or get out of jail card nicknamed a Russian tank by L.A, Andrei started to cause some problems, and it was him who got the equalizer 1-1 and this brought us back into the game.

The next body blow was Jos going off with an injury that meant we had to reshuffle. Los Amigos took advantage off this to race 1-3 in front.

Mollies didn’t drop they heads and soon pulled together again, and begun to crawl back into the game and in the last 10 minutes saw us create a few more chances that served as a warning. Half time 1-3.

There was a feeling in the team that the game was not over, and we hope that with the advantage of the wind would help us to win or even draw.

We started with the pressure, but L.A defense held firm and with a couple of counter attacks showed they were in a strong position.

Just when you thought it was not going to be our day, up pops Andrei to score his 2 and bring us back into the game 2-3.

This helped us to push on, but L.A stayed firm.

With the minutes ticking away we got another free kick, Steven had just seen his kick cleared off the line, gave way to another of our stars and up stepped Andries who's free kick floated over everyone and more important they keeper into the net to make it 3-3.

Just like last week but this time we fought back to earn a draw.

This was a battling display. Which has to be carried into every game this season and if we do…who knows…

Next week Sava so we have to be on top of our game if we want all 3 points.

Team: Wesley, Peter, Fred, Jos, Kris, Paul, Andries, Steven, Nemo, Dave, Andrei;   subs: Erik, Christophe

27/09/2003: Breughel 88 v MBFC: 3 - 3

The PGW report:

This was a game of 2 halves. The 1st brilliant football, that gave us a 1-3 lead. The 2nd half that allowed B88 back into the game, to grab a point.

We will leave my contribution to the game out of this report. And talk about the good football we played at times in the 1st half. Nemo is now performing in front of the goal. His 2 goals and Andries 1 showing how much we have improved since last year. When B88 put 8 goals past us.

The 2nd half was not so much of a bad performance, but more of a slowing down which gave B88 hope.

The defense was to far away from the midfield that allowed B88 a little too much space.

In the last 10 minutes we still made enough chances to win this game.

I think from now on, we will carry on attacking and playing the football in our opponents half of the field, no more sitting back and holding out for the win. Next week Los Amigos and we need to perform in both halves of the game.

Team: Dave, Peter, Kris, Paul, Andries, Steven, Bozo, Luc, Nemo, Andrei. Subs Fred, Erik, Christophe, Jos

20/09/2003: Strambam v MBFC: 3 - 7

The PGW report:

It was a beautiful day, and  mollies fans base was out in strenght, and so was the team.

It was a good all round performance, starting with our new keeper Wesley, a defence held together by Paul, Steven fresh from his holiday in midfield and last but not least Andrei causing problims up front.

By half-time we were 1-4 in front, with the goals coming from Andrei 2, Steven 1, Nemo 1.

But ,just like last week our 2nd half left a lot to be desire. We allowed Strambam to put pressure on us, that seem to give them hope. But unlike last year we have outlet, in our  young guns. Every goal scored by Strambam, we matched. We ended up winning the 2nd half 2-3 with further goals from Steven, Andreis, and Dave, who took advantage of a waywood keeper. F.T 3-7

Guys we have to watch our 2nd half performances. We allow the other team to come back into the game.

This is a simple solution we carry on with the same performances as in the 1st half.

Team : Wesley, Fred, Peter, Paul, Goran, Bozo, Luc, Steven, Andries, Nemo, Andrei.

13/09/2003: MBFC v BW Torfs Sport: 5 - 0

The PGW report:

It has been long times since we have played well and dominated a game, and came out on the winning side.

This was just what the doctor had ordered. Our performances in the last games have been good each week was an improvement from the week before. The performance was perfect with everyone contributing to the win.

The team this week was more or less up to full strength Steven back from holiday, David back in goal, and Luc replacing peter in the team.

The game started very even with neither team taking a dominant role. We manage to get pass our opening 10 minutes with out conceding an early goal. Then we started to be take control or especially Luc who’s engine seem to carry him all over the field. His pass to Andries created the first opportunity for Luc himself to finish of with ease. His 2nd goal came within 5 minutes after his first 2-0 and everything was looking good.

It got better with Andrei scoring his 3rd goal of the season and our 3rd in the game 3-0.

We carried on creating and missing opportunities, until Steven he didn’t realize he had scored himself until turn around to see the ball in the back off the net, some how let the ball hit his back of his head to make it 4-0.

It stayed that way till half time.  H.T 4-0

The 2nd half was a bit off a dull affair. With no one taking a hold off the half. It got better in the last 10 minutes when Jos went up front to put pressure on the defense from torfs. But it was left to his son Andreis to add to the score line and give us a comfortable win.

Everything fell into place, with both youth and mature players performing together as a team. Now we have to carry on with these performances and high position for us is possible. Carry on training and working for each other and who knows!

Team: DAVID, FRED, GORAN, JOS, KRIS, ANDRIES, STEVEN, LUC, BOZO, NEMO, ANDREI, subs PAUL, ERIK, CHRISTOPHE.

PGW

I thought I'd let you in on the joy of reading the unedited match report... There's hope for Paul's ghost writer, but he/she might want to consider a refresher course in grammar (Erik, offering a prize to whoever finds the most grammatical and/or spelling mistakes, if any.)

06/09/2003: Racing Maerksem v MBFC: 5 - 3

The PGW report:

In the past, we have always started very well on the 1st league game of the season, but just the last couple of seasons we have struggled to get a full team and ended up on the losing side. This year is no different.

Don’t be fooled by the score line, we at least deserved a point in what was a very entertaining game, with both teams being fully committed to it.

We started with 11 and finished with 9, no subs this week. So you knew it was going to be tough against a team that was relegated from the 1st last season. The opening 10 mins found us in control, with both Andries & Andrei forcing the Maerksem keeper into important saves with the ball goal bound. All seemed good until the first card of the game saw Bozo being dismissed, and, of course, no subs. 11 against 10 saw maerksem take full advantage of the situation to race to 2-0 lead.

Then the 2nd card saw a maerksem player being given a red, 10 against 10 brought us back into the game, but just when it seemed we were back in it the 3rd card of the game saw Fred being yellow carded. 10 against 9, but this time R.M. didn’t take advantage, it was us who did.

Our 1st goal of the season started on the edge of our area: myself (Paul) won the ball, carried it 10 meters then passed to a full steaming Jos whose 1st time cross was controlled in his stride by Andrei who rounded the keeper to make 2-1 and back in it. We kept the pressure on until half time making a couple more chances for ourselves. Halftime 2-1.

We started the 2nd half with high hopes, but they where destroyed in the space of 5 mins with Erik making two howlers that gifted them 4-1 lead. They added a 5th goal to go 5-1 in front. Then a 4th card saw it go 9-9 (they had already used they subs). This changed the game again. Andrei capitalized on an error by defender to make it 5-2, then Andries picked up a loose ball in the area to make 5-3, and a comeback was on the cards. The comeback was not to mature. Nemo who had already missed a couple of chances then goes and hits the post. If it had gone in, the last 5 minutes might have been different. Well, that’s football, with the last surviving players running themselves into the ground, the great comeback finished there. Full time 5-3.

In our opening games so far we have created more chances then at any time than last season. This holds good for the season. The spirit is good, atmosphere as well and with this we will finish higher than our mid table expectations.

So guys I know things can get heated on the field but if we ALL stay focused this can be our season.

Team: ERIK, FRED, JOS, KRIS, GORAN, ANDRIES, BOZO, PETER, NEMO, PAUL, ANDREI.

Paul's Ghost Writer

It seems Paul's ghost writer is more ghost than writer. Feel free to rib him to bits about this.

My 10 cents' worth of match analysis: good start, sloppy goal to concede, silly of Bozo to get sent off (handling the ball 1 minute earlier proved costly), a proper goalie would have claimed the cross for their second goal, eyes down to Andries for getting one of them sent off (straight red) and not making a drama out of being punched, nice individual effort of Andrei to score our first goal, Fred gets his marching orders for an innocuous challenge (compensation for their red card?) two howlers by Erik and sloppy defending saw the game being put well past us (5-1), but no, Andrei gets a second and sets up Andries for our third, Maerksem is reduced to nine as well (yellow card), Nemo gets four excellent chances (one-on-one with the goalie) but sends the ball wide (twice), hit the goalie and saw one rebound off the far post, Erik redeemed himself slightly by stopping a few shots (somehow he had gotten in the way of the ball). Nice after-match atmosphere, good beer.

Erik
