Krist Anthony Novoselic was born on May 16 1965 in Campton, California to his Croatian born parents Maria and... Krist. He grew up with a brother, Robert, and a sister, Diana. His family moved around California several times. In 1979, Krist and his family moved to Aberdeen.
Krist was an outcast and considered a geek in school, a very uncomfortable situation which was leading to serious emotional problems and even a depression. In onder to take Krist away from his problems, his parents decided to send him to relatives back in Croatia in 1980. Krist learned to speak Croatian and really started enjoying his life again, about a year later he returned home.
Things weren't any better when he got back and so he began smoking pot and drinking heavily. During his senior year, Krist bought himself a car, speakers and a guitar. Along with his brother Robert, Krist started taking guitar lessons with Warren Mason, the same person that thaught Kurt how to play. Eventually Krist would quit these lessons and lock himself in his room where he'd jam with old blues records and woodshedding. Robert brought home Kurt one day, he was intrigued by the music escaping from Krist's room.
In 1983 Krist graduated from high school, shortly after his parents would file for divorce. In addition to this burden, Krist had to undergo plastic surgery to help correct a severe underbite. After six weeks of having his mouth completely wired up, Krist eventually came in contact with Kurt Cobain, who was in a band called Fecal Matter. Krist and Kurt were both huge fans of the Melvins, and when Fecal Matter split, Krist and Kurt decided to start a band together. After a short cooperation with Bob McFadden (on drums) they each went seperate ways again, but some time later they'd team up again (together with Aaron Burckhard). They formed a band which eventually evolved into... Nirvana.
After his legendary time with Nirvana, Krist played for a band called Sweet 75. Now just recently (dated 2002) Krist started out a new band with Curt Kirkwood and Buzz Osborne, they call themselves "Eyes Adrift".
Dave Eric Grohl was born on January 31, 1969 in Warren, Ohio. His parents, Virginia and James Grohl divorced when Dave turned six. David's family had music integrated into it's past and it would continue into it's future. Dave decided to have guitar lessions at the age of ten but soon decided to learn it by himself. By the age of twelve, Dave had his first electric guitar, shortly after he would join a local band and as a result was introduced to punk rock.
Later on, Dave joined a band called Freak Baby. He joined that band however, as a drummer, not as a guitar player. Freak Baby would change it's name several time: the first time they changed into Mission Impossible, some time later they'd become "Fast". This band split up in 1986. Dave then joined a band called Dain Bramage along with Fast's bass player. At the age of 16, Dave wanted to join a band called "Scream". At first Dave was considered too young, but the band quite quickly changed their mind and allowed him to join in.Dave toured with Scream after one year and a half. However, Scream was having budget problems and two of its members were missing. Scream's tour was cancelled shortly afterwards.
Dave contacted a friend, Buzz Osborne, who recomended that Dave would try out for the Seattle band, Nirvana, as its drummer. Dave auditioned in front of Kurt and Krist who were impressed with his drumming abilities. His first show with Nirvana was the North Shore Surf Club in Olympia. We all know what happened then...Even before Kurt died, Dave was already writing music on his own, and desperately wanted to record his own album. But when Kurt died in April 1994, Dave was so devestated that he was on the verge of quitting the art of music entirely, but with support from his friends he pulled through in the end. He continued writing music and finished his album, he'd call it "Foo Fighters". Dave played all the instruments on this album (except for the guitar part in X-Static, which was performed by Afghan Wings' Greg Dulli) and wanted to tour to promote his album. Only he had no band, but quite quickly the pieces would come together: he picked up Pat Smear (who had joined Nirvana as their second guitar player) and former Sunny Day Real Estate members Nate Mendel (bass) and William Goldsmith (drums). Grohl emerged from behind his drum kit and started playing guitar and singing for the Foo Fighters.
Foo Fighters went platinum and spawned three hit singles: "This Is A Call," "I'll Stick Around," and "Big Me." Grohl's primal screaming and seemingly endless energy on stage impressed many. The band was becoming a force.

Aaron Burckhard : This drummer appeared at the April '87 KAOS radio show. He was dismissed from the band, but about a year later he made a short comeback as he replaced Dave Foster, who was jailed. Ironically Aaron was sent behind bars himself, after having insulted an officer. After his short career with Nirvana he got involved with a band called Attica.
Dave Foster : A drummer who started out as a bass player for a Melvin's sattelite band, which also starred Dale Crover. Dave joined Nirvana in 1988, but this cooperation wouldn't last long due to Foster's being thrown in jail (he had beaten up the son of the mayor of Cosmopolis, who had been dating Dave's girlfriend). Dave Foster was the only Nirvana member who didn't come from a broken home. After Nirvana, Foster joined the band Papawheelie.
Chad Channing : Another drummer. Chad joined Nirvana for the recording of Bleach, but it is said that Kurt and Krist were unhappy with his performance and his style in general. Although he claims to have quit the band himself, it is believed that he was fired after the spring of 1990 US-show. Chad Channing woud later continue his career with a band called The Methodists.
Dale Crover : He helped with the recording of the 01/23/1988 studio demo at Reciprocal Studios. Dale moved to San Francisco with the Melvins in early '88 after recommending Dave Foster to replace him. He reappeared in the summer of 1990 on a West Coast tour with Sonic Youth. So far Dale Crover's credited on more than 30 different albums.
Jason Everman : A guitar player who joined Nirvana for a few gigs following the release of debut album Bleach. Although Jason is credited on this album, he actually didn't play on a single track, he was however responsible for the raising of the funds, totaling no more than $606,17. Jason only joined Nirvana in studio once; this was for the recording of "Do You Love Me?" at Evergreen State College. After Nirvana, Jason played bass for Soundgarden for a brief period, after that he would pick up his electric guitar once more, as he joined a New Jersey band called Mindfunk. After his musical career, Everman decided to join the US Navy.
Danny Peters : A drummer once more. Dan Peters joined in with Nirvana during the summer of 1990 and played drums for the recording of Incesticide single "Sliver", which was recorded on 06/11/90. Strangely, Dan Peters only played one gig with Nirvana: the 09/22/90 show, held at the Motor Sports International and Garage, Seattle. After breaking up with Nirvana, Dan played for Screaming Trees and Mudhoney.
Kera Schaley : She played cello on In Utero and currently sings and plays cello for a band called "Martyr & Pistol". She also figured on Vic Chesnutt's album "Is The Actor Happy?" and Azure Ray's "November".
John Duncan : John Duncan starred in the 07/23/93 MTV Unplugged in New York show and was part of the 1993 In Utero-tour. He also played for a band called The Exploited, where he had himself called "Big John".
Pat Smear : Pat also figured on the MTV Unplugged in New York show and replaced John Duncan during the 1993 In Utero-tour. At his birth Pat Smear was actually given the name George Ruthenberg. Pat Smear would also play for the Foo Fighters for a little while.
Curt Kirkwood : He and his brother Cris are the Meat Puppets, a band of which Nirvana covers 3 songs ("Plateau", "Oh Me" and "Lake Of Fire") during the MTV Unplugged In New York show. Curt plays guitar on these songs. Curt has recently (jan 2002) teamed up with Krist Novoselic and Bud Gaugh to form a new band: "Eyes Adrift".
Cris Kirkwood : idem to Curt Kirkwood, except he's not a member of "Eyes Adrift"
Lori Goldston : She plays cello on Unplugged In New York and participated in the US-tour that followed. She played for Seattle's Black Cat Orchestra before she joined Nirvana, and rejoined this band early on in 1994. She played guitar on the album "Give The People What We Want : Songs of The Kinks" and played cello on the album "Release The Butterfly" (Carrie Clarke), "Ride" (Jeff Greinke), "Crooklyn Dub Consortium Vol. 2: Escape From N.Y.", "Metal Shed Blues" (The Old Joe Clarks), "Shugg Vs. Cockpit : A Bittersweet Team Up Of Bands Vol.2" (Shugg & Cockpit), "You Can Be Low" (Mavis Piggott), "Octoroon" (Laura Love) and "No More Medicine" (Citizens Utilities).
Melora Creager : She played cello on the songs "Polly", "Dumb" and "All Apologies" during the 02/22/94 show in Rome, Italy. It's possible that she played on other occasions too. She's the founding father (mother) of a pseudo-classical, hard-core "positive goth" female cello band "Rasputina". Together with her band she performed with bands and artists like Cheap Trick, Marylin Manson, Joan Osborne, B-52's, Guns N Roses, Goo Goo Dolls and many more.
