An Internet Paging system. By entering the names and e-mail addresses of friends, family and colleagues into Excite PAL, you can see them when they are online and have Excite PAL open on their desktop. By typing a message to any of your friends online and clicking send, the "instant message" is sent immediately. Developed by Excite and AOL, and based on AOL's buddy lists, its a good service, on a par with Ipage (below), but perhaps bettered by ICQ (below).
Very fast, and very easy to set up. The recommended Java chat facility for you web pages. Of course these systems require you to have enough visitors to your site to make a Chat Room viable!
Add chat to your site, using a Java applet that EarthWeb write for you. Pretty slow to load however!
Another Chat Facility, at 1 May they were not taking subscriptions, but you can get your name on a mail list, for when they do start again.
A free Beta download which allows you to detect other users who are online. When you go online, it tells you which of the people in your address book are on the internet, and gives you the option of emailing them, sending them a message, or starting up a chat session. The download is approximately 1.2Mb. This is our preferred system, and it now gives non ICQ users the option to page you, or send you email!
Similar to ICQ, a free download that allows you to detect users in your address book who are online, and to page them. Not as good as ICQ.
The Biggest chat list on the web!
