The Maritime Information Association
M.I.A. Activities
M.I.A. Annual Conference 2000
The Association arranges visits to places and events of maritime interest. Visits in 1999 have included The British Library, The British Library Newspaper Library, the new galleries of the National Maritime Museum, and an evening cocktail party and preview at Bonhams auction house.
The Association is developing its own Internet website. A Workshop on maritime websites is planned. Members of the Association are also working on a maritime periodicals indexing project, and have participated in the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne's Ship Databases Workshop.
The Association's Annual Conference takes place on a weekend in April, usually at a port town or city. The Meeting consists of lectures on maritime subjects, visits to port installations, or a port trip, and the Association's A.G.M. and Conference Dinner. The Conference is an opportunity for members to socialise and discuss mutual interests; the 2000 Conference took place at Chatham.
