BRUSSEL -- Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Louis Michel brengt volgende week een
bezoek aan Iran. Dat is niet naar de zin van het Iraanse verzet.
Volgens de Nationale Raad van het Verzet van Iran (NCRI) heeft het bewind in
Teheran de jongste tijd de schendingen van de mensenrechten opgevoerd. De
Iraanse staatsmedia hebben 1.500 executies in vijf jaar gemeld, zegt het NCRI,
en daarnaast zouden er nog eens duizenden mensen in het geheim terechtgesteld
zijn. Het regime heeft protestbewegingen brutaal neergeslagen en duizenden jonge
mensen mishandeld. Het NCRI beschuldigt Teheran ook van 85 ,,terreuraanslagen''
tegen de oppositie.

Tehran, Brussels Enjoy "Very Good" Relations: FM Spokesman
TEHRAN - The Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday that Belgian Deputy
Prime Minister and Foreign Minister louis michel is arriving here today for a
three-day official visit.
Asefi said that during Michel's visit to Iran, the first by a Belgian foreign

(Reuters) -- Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel said on a visit to Tehran he
was optimistic progress could be made on a political and trade deal between the
European Union and Iran, the official IRNA news agency said on Tuesday.
The trade and cooperation agreement would be an important milestone in the EU's
efforts to engage Iran and encourage change. The policy is in stark contrast to
U.S. hostility to Iran, which Washington says is part of an "axis of evil."
"I am very optimistic about signing the trade agreement between Iran and the
European Union," the agency quoted Michel as saying.

Iran-EU Comprehensive Relations Not Far-Fetched
Belgium's Foreign Minister louis michel voiced support here on Tuesday for a
trade and cooperation pact between European Union (EU) members and Iran. Michel,
who arrived here on Monday night for a two-day trip, said that "Iran is an
important country and relations with that country should be strengthened in all
areas." Furthermore, earlier this week, Beligian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Koen
Vervaeke told IRNA that the aim of Michel's trip was to "intensify bilateral
ties between the two countries," adding that "Belgium is one of the active

TEHRAN, June 13 (AFP) - Belgian FM Louis Michel left Tehran early
Thursday for Georgia after a 2-day visit during which he called on
Iran to "help" the EU play an active role in establishing peace in
the Mideast.
"I have asked the Iranian government to help the European Union play a role in the Middle East peace process," Michel said Wednesday, adding that the "differences" between the EU and Iran over the "definition of terrorism" focussed most notably around Palestinian suicide attacks which Tehran does not condemn.
