MP: Iran Seriously Following Policy of Detente

TEHRAN -- Visiting Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister louis michel conferred here on Wednesday with head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohsen Mirdamadi on issues of mutual interest.

Mirdamadi said that Iran is decisively following the policy of detente in its relations with other states, the European Union, in particular, and is also eager to enhance its ties with the Union, IRNA reported.

The official also noted that exchange of political and parliamentary delegations will play a significant role in boosting bilateral cooperation.

Mirdamadi further briefed the Belgian minister on the reforms trend in Iran and people's participation in the country's political and economic affairs.

Michel, for his part, said that the cooperation among Iran, Belgium and the EU will be strengthened in near future.

He said that Belgium attaches high importance to Iran's political and economic developments, calling for greater political and economic relations.
